How to obtain NIE number for non-residents

(This guide assumes that the applicant is in Spain on a visit.)

Go to the Town Hall with the applicant and their passport Monday Friday before 11am. (You need the office at the back of the Town Hall on the far left.)

Ask for an NIE application form and you will be given one together with a Tax Form and an appointment day and number (make sure to be at the Town Hall when they call your number, they do not wait!)

Go to any bank and pay the tax due on the form (9.18 euros)

On your appointment day go back to the Town Hall with the applicant and the following documents:

Completed and paid Tax Form

Completed NIE form and 2 copies

Passport of applicant and one complete copy (including blank pages) plus extra copy of photo page

Your Escritura and 1 copy (If no escritura held, use rental agreement or if staying with family, their escritura)

1 passport photo

If the applicant will still be in Spain to collect the NIE number then that is all you need. If not, you will also need to take the passport of the person who will collect it for them and ask for a Certificate of Representation (Designacion De Representante).
