Bogus Gas  Men

The ‘bogus’ Repsol/Cepsa gas men are still operating. They have been operating in the Villa Martin areas of the Orihuela Costa over the last few days. The genuine Repsol/Cepsa gas men usually only visit houses by appointment.

Beware – they may knock on your door next.

For our newcomers, these men are from a firm fully licensed legally in Valencia, and as in British law commit no criminal offence.

The responsibility for the maintenance of gas appliances rests completely with the user who is responsible for asking for a service every 5 years. He normally will not be approached by any Company. All you need to do is to contact your local Butano or Cepsa supplier and ask for a service. On completion of the work you will be given an Insurance Certificate which is included in the price and covers damage caused by faulty workmanship and materials. The cost of this Service is usually about 60 euros.

The Valencian agents have been known to charge a much higher price and have been known to charge 255 Euros for the standard service which I understand now includes an Insurance Certificate.

Always ask for an estimate before agreeing to the work being done, and in Spain, no-one may enter your property without your permission.

Remember, if you have not had your gas connections and appliances

serviced every 5 years and damage is caused to your or other persons

property, you are not covered by insurance and are responsible for the cost of repairing damage caused.
